Escondido’s 15 city parks give guests and residents endless choices for free outdoor adventure. Daley Ranch, one of the largest parks in the area, offers over 20 hiking, mountain biking and equestrian trails. For an afternoon gathering, El Norte Park provides multiple picnic and barbeque amenities across its 2.5 acre space. On steamy summer days, Washington Park is the desired oasis, complete with its large 49’ x 39’ public swimming pool, water slide and smaller wading pool for toddlers. Dixon Lake and Lake Wohlford, both full of plentiful trout, catfish and bass give the fisherman of the family a run for their money and endless hours on the still water.

Ever have the desire to take an African safari, but realize that seems to be a day dream? Not in Escondido! TheSan Diego Zoo Safari Park not only gives visitors a chance to see cheetahs, giraffes and elephants up close and personal in their open environment, it gives visitors options of how they would like to safari: via tricycle, rope course or caravan. This “Choose Your Own Adventure” exhibit is a must-see and one of only twelve located in the United States.
